Largest Ear of Corn Grown in Oklahoma?
This whimsical vintage postcard titled “The Largest Ear of Corn Grown in Okla.” is a playful example of Tall Tales of Oklahoma Agriculture, part of a popular postcard trend in the early 1900s that celebrated rural pride with a touch of humor. The colorized image shows two men balancing atop a wagon carrying an enormous ear of corn, pulled by a pair of horses down a dirt road lined with trees. Like other “exaggeration postcards” of the time, it was likely created by blending photographs to depict impossible feats of farming—oversized vegetables, record harvests, or enormous livestock. These postcards offered a lighthearted look at the promise of the Great Plains and the optimism of Oklahoma’s agricultural roots, when a good story—and a little exaggeration—helped capture the spirit of life on the frontier.
